The
Arts Council of Sonoma County presents its first Northern California Small
Works exhibit which runs from Friday, February 3rd through Friday, April
14th. This is a juried
exhibit of diminutive works, nothing larger than a foot (12") by Northern
California artists. 106 works representing all media and materials, from
2-inch paintings to 10-inch monumental sculpture, were selected from more
than 300 entries from all over Northern California.
Among the
Sonoma County artists featured include: sculptor Monty
Monty of Santa Rosa (Time Will Tell), Multi-media artist Nuala
Creed of Petaluma (Enigma Shoes), Painter Robert
Rice (The Beginning) of Sebastopol, painter Sarah
Myers (Untitled) of Sonoma, photographer Cappy
Pottle of Cotati (Lottery, CRACK, POWer), and painter Greg
Murray of Healdsburg (Dream State, Daytime Dreaming). The exhibit
juror is Chester Arnold of Sonoma,
who is a painter and art instructor at the College of Marin. Educated
in Munich, Germany, the College of Marin and the San Francisco Art
Institute. Arnold has exhibited widely in the Bay Area and nationally. Arnold conceived the memorial Never to Forget: Faces of the Fallen a traveling and growing collection of 7 by 5 inch portraits of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq created by college and high school students from news photos. 2,000 of these portraits are currently on exhibit at the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art. Arnold is represented by the Catherine Clark Gallery in San Francisco, Coordinators of the Northern California Small Works exhibit are Leslie Zumwalt (Camp Meeker), Elisa Carozza (Santa Rosa) and Jane Baron (Santa Rosa), from the Arts Council of Sonoma County Exhibits Committee. The ACSC Gallery is located at 529 Fifth Street in Santa Rosa, and is open Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. or by appointment. Admission is free. All works will be available for purchase.

Arts Council of Sonoma County is a federally designated non-profit organization
dedicated to promoting and supporting the visual, performing and literary
arts within Sonoma County since 1983.
